Why Advent is Importent to us

  

 This week our class has been learning about advent and why it is importent to us, why we celebrate it and a whole lot of other information as well. I enjoyed searching up the information and seeing how differntly people celebrate advent and why it is so importent. It was hard to put the information into my own words.

How to conquer decimals

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about decimals and how to add and subtract them. I enjoyed creating the questions and solving them out by step by step instructions. The thing I found challenging was explaining how to subtract and add decimals.

Gravity is keeping us alive?

Over the past few weeks we have been learning all about gravity and things around it. Gravity has a big part to do with our earth. I enjoyed making the thinlink because it is something that I wouldn't usally work on. It was hard to put information into my own words from the site but I think that I did well in explaining it.

Joan of Arc war inquiry

This is my inquiry about Joan of Arc the great war hero the fought in the 100 year war. It was diffucult searching up all the information because some sites were inacurate.

Our amazing camp adventure of 2016

This year the seniors went on a school camp to woodend.  When creating this slideshow the harderst thing was getting all the photos because there wasn't any photos for orienteering. Overall I enjoyed going to camp this year because we got to relax and didn't have any tests or school work.

Algorithms in everyday life

This week my group learnt about subtraction algorithms. I enjoyed doing the quiz part because I like creating the questions and the hyperlinks. Next time we could add pictures.

Jesus' events up to birth

This week we have been learning about a Jesse tree. A jesse tree is Jesus' family and all the events leading up to jesus' birth. Each person has a different image that relates to Jesus.

Transformations

We have learnt how many different trnsformations there are. Alltogether there are four different types of transformations. All of them are different to one another and they all don't do the same thing.

Our landfill expirement

A couple weeks ago Kayla and I did a landfil expirement to see what decomposed and what biodegrades. The hardest part of all of that was making sure that it was in good shape and to dry. I enjoyed the part where We tipped out the landfil and seen what has happened over a few weeks.

What to do with four sided shapes?

This week we are learning about quadrilaterals. The thing I found diffucult was drawing the different quadrilaterals and getting the right angles. My next step would to be to put in depth questions. 

What can plastic bags do to the environment?

                        This week we created a quiz about plastic bags and whatr can happen to them and what they can do. I found diffucult linking the different slides and finding the information. I think my next step is to include more information at the begining. 

Is that bottles you are wearing?

How can plastic bottles become clothing?

On this day when we recycle bottles it can somehow become clothing that you wear in everyday life. This step by step process is a complicated time consuming journey.

Firstly the workers shred the bottles because we may leave some liquid in the bottle without even realising. Once they are shredded they get wrapped in cellophane and sent over to China to continue the journey.

Once they are delivered to China the shredded parts with bright stickers have to get removed, to get rid of them they have to go in two different baths one after another. When they have finished the first bath they then need to go into the next bath which is dangerous for the human skin. When they have had their baths they need to dry out so they put it in an oven.

Once the bottles have dried out, the workers put the bottles into a rotation screw that can heat up to 270 celsius. When it has been through the rotation screw it has created thread but that thread isn’t yet strong enough to create cloth. So they have to stretch the thread and as they are stretching the thread it needs to be heated. Next the workers have to rip it all apart again, then it gets baled up and sent to another factory in China to make polyester which means that there job is done for now.

When they arrive to the other factory the workers have to scrap the thread to create very rough cloth. Then the rough cloth gets carded, carding is when the bonded fiber faces in a similar direction which will strengthen the material that it has created.

Once they have the material the workers use a machine that creates tiny loops into the material to give it a nice feel. Then after that for some strange reason they use steel brushes to get rid of the tiny loops that they just created so that it would be a softer feel to the product. Then they get the cloth and send it to a designer factory to finish off the product.  

When the designers have received the cloth they immediately get to work and design the product. When they have completed designing the product it gets sent all around the world.

When the product is complete they have to do that process all over again.  That has been the step by step process that the workers have been through. So the clothes you wear to this day started out as bottles and was transformed into clothes.

Starter:Write a story about a depressed wildebeest who discovers a talking frog

The abandoned Lumber Mill

It was a cool frosty morning as Jack woke up from his rough,small,sharp bed.Jack stretchers his back and waits until he hears a click.Jack is a wild weird wildebeest that is droopy and depressed because he lives alone in the woods on a cliff.”What a cold morning it is but that doesn't stop me from going outside and getting vitamin D”.Jack walked outside and suddenly a chill went through his body.

Jack waits until it gets warmer like a hot summer day until he is ready to go outside to face Jack Frost but when he walked outside he disappeared.Jack carried on walking West until he reached his bungee jump.He hooks himself up and prepares to jump down the side of the cliff.Suddenly he jumps and along the way to his surprise he finds a stranded freaky fearless frog that is just sitting there.

So Jack waits until the cord isn't jumping up and down and he is just hanging there but he needs to act fast because he has set up a timer for the bungee cord to go up.Jack instantly thought fast and snatched up the frog on his way up.Jack says “hello there buddy why were you up here by yourself in the middle of nowhere”.”Houdini” the frog says “You you talk? Well we will discuss this later but first what is your name?” Houdini Houdini Houdini” “ so you are the magician Houdini?” “Houdini”They eventually make it up to the top and they head East to get back to his house.

Houdini isn’t scared of much he is strong like a dumb beetle.They had a horrible cup of tea while discussing in how he can talk but the fearless frog only says houdini.Jack thinks to himself maybe the magician Houdini taught him how to speak and must of performed a disappearing trick but couldn’t bring him back but clumsy Jack accidentally said that out loud so the frog disappeared into the misty woods...

Jack is hunting him down looking for footprints running in all directions until he hears an owl and suddenly someone said dini from out of nowhere.They kept on speaking so jack followed the voice until it led to a dead end.Jack carried on his search without realising that he is lost.To Jack’s astonshiment he found a an abondend lumber mill..Jack has a suspicion that he might of enterd in the lumber mill without realising it could collapase any minute.So Jack felt like he was going to be a hero that saves civilians but instead he saves animals.

He enters the lumber mill and he knows everything could go wrong in here,he just imagines the fearless frog jumping over saws,crawling through gaps and climbing over the dangerous contraptions.Jack knows the risk but it is all worth it to save Houdini.He ventures throughout the abandoned lumber mill confident and courageous.He unexpectedly found the control room. He decides to press some buttons that could be a disaster,some were blue,red and green but they all had sawdust on them so it was hard to recognize which colour was which.

There were loud noises for all the buttons except for one which was the light switch but as you might of expected it didn’t work.He left the control room still not know what all those buttons did.Jack searched throughout the lumber mill being very cautious like flies around a venus fly trap.He decided to leave this deathtrap and try to return to his home…

Does music help you learn or distract you?

My Planning Padlet

In my opinion I believe that we shouldn’t listen to music while working. Listening to music will distract you from your learning. You will get carried away with the music and won't achieve the national standards or get any progress done.

I highly recommend you keep the learning environment as it is because we are all concentrating,working and trying our hardest. The music will just keep on distracting you and your progress. Do you want your progress to stop or even go down?

Secondly I believe that music will distract you and your learning.Your parents send you to school to learn and not to be distracted by music.

Also the children might go home and distract the parents when they just came back from work by playing the music really loud.

I advise you to keep the learning environment as it is. If the children listen to inappropriate music the teachers/parents won’t be happy. Also you might get carried away and start humming/singing it through class.

I highly recommend that we shouldn’t listen to music during class. It might make you fall behind because we are focused on reaching or achieving the national standards

Charlie-I was walking down the road and I saw something shiny on the ground so I picked it up and it was $1.I wanted to buy another chocolate bar for myself so I ran to the convenience store and asked for 2 chocolate bars and to my surprise there was a golden ticket.When the owner yelled out “He has won the ticket” everyone around me started to swarm me and tried to steal the ticket from me.I ran past the mob and sprinted home to show my family.
